Introduction

FOR REVIEW

This page provides a template and additional points you might want to take into consideration when writing case studies and should be used in conjunction with:

General Principles & Planning

Whatever elements from below you decide to include in your case studies, it is important that you adopt a set structure. This will allow visitors to quickly understand the structure as they move between case studies – familiarity!

Project Summary

  • I see this as a sidebar sitting to the right of the Introduction/Overview.

Notes:

  • Easily digestible project overview.
  • With links to external links to client/client project page and third-party suppliers (I think including links will stand you in good stead with project partners and the like).
  • Consider including the client’s logo too. Not necessarily in this section, but maybe as part of the page banner?

Disciplines/Solutions:

  • Consider including these as icons with links to the relevant pages.
  • Include these within the project summary, AND/OR/ALTERNATIVELY as links within the body of the case study where you refer to them.

Project Summary/”Inside Story”

Brief summary of the project. To include type of event, purpose, where it was held etc.

Client: Client Name

Brief overview of who the client is. Obviously, if the company is well known, there’s not much need to be said here. However, in the instance of SANS, it would be useful to tell the reader who SANS is and what they do.

The client is likely to look at this very favourably as you effectively are promoting them on your website!

Client’s Objectives

Description of why the client is doing the event, what they were looking to achieve, who their target audience(s) were, and any other pertinent information. These should communicate the commercial drivers for the event.

Lead Agency: Agency Name*

Brief overview of the agency. Areas of specialism, key markets they operate in etc.

The agency is likely to look at this very favourably as you effectively are promoting them on your website!

* if applicable.

Client/Agency Brief

Description of the Brief given to LUX by the client/agency.

  • Include creative and technical details as appropriate.
Why the Client/agency chose LUX

This is the first time we have worked with ABC/we have had a long relationship with ABC. Why we won the contract – if you don’t know, ask them!

Use this to highlight specific skills/services you brought to the table! Ideally, you should include some differentiators that set you apart from your competition and that your readers will understand and appreciate – e.g. human factors, highly specific knowledge expertise, etc.

Creative Design

Highlight how you worked with the client/agency to develop the creative elements/conceptual design to meet the brief and client objectives.

Use this section to showcase your creativity, ability to work closely with the client/agency to deliver the design. Highlight any specific elements you brought to the table.

  • Example: In the SANS case study highlight the fact that the client came up to your offices to see what the video wall would look like in the flesh
Technical Design

Highlight the technical aspects you had to take into consideration in the technical design. Use this section to showcase some of your technical expertise.

  • Example: ensuring the colour temp of the white lights was consistent to ensure video/photography could accurately capture colours of dresses in a fashion show.
Setup and Installation

How the project was installed.

Local operating issues you had to overcome. Sort of messaging: thinking on your feet, responding to last minute changes, overcoming unforeseen circumstances etc.

Managing the Event

Same approach as previous section.

OutCome

How it went. Did you hit project objectives. Client feedback. Testimonials?
