Gingerline approached LUX to collaborate on their critically acclaimed immersive dining experience, The Grand Expedition. This five-course theatrical journey through animated worlds combined fine dining, performance, and large-format projection. Our role was to design and deliver the system integration and projection infrastructure — ensuring every part of the experience was technically seamless, flexible, and creatively aligned.
To create a fully immersive, multi-sensory dining environment where lighting, video, and audio elements worked in harmony with live performance and culinary delivery — all controlled in real time to allow flexibility and improvisation.
LUX was brought in to design and install a system that could seamlessly synchronise projection, sound, and lighting across the venue, while allowing for dynamic show control. The environment needed to shift fluidly between animated landscapes, each supporting a different course of the meal, and allow performers to trigger cues live during the show.

Working alongside Gingerline’s creative team, we helped translate their storytelling and culinary concept into a dynamic, responsive technical framework — one that would support large-scale visual content, spatial audio, and live interaction without disrupting the dining flow.
We designed a custom playback and projection system capable of handling large-format animation with precise scene transitions. A central control network was developed, allowing all systems — video, audio, and lighting — to communicate and remain in perfect sync, with flexibility built in for real-time adjustments.
As the show evolved throughout its multi-month run, we provided continued technical support, working closely with the creative and performance teams to adapt and refine the system. Our team ensured hardware integration with third-party collaborator systems, maintained system stability, and oversaw updates.
We installed projection across all four walls of the venue, complete with edge-blending and custom mapping. Infrastructure for AV control and show management was embedded discreetly to preserve the aesthetic of the environment, while maintaining full functionality for operators and performers.
From opening night through the full 8-month run, the system ran consistently and reliably. Operators had full control of playback via a custom interface, with cues that allowed for both timed automation and performer-triggered changes — preserving the spontaneous feel of the theatrical experience.

This project was a true creative collaboration — one that pushed the boundaries of how technology can support theatre, food, and immersive storytelling. As a team of proud foodies, we relished the opportunity to combine our technical craft with such a rich culinary and creative experience.
A special highlight for us was when our key animator and Head of Digital, Thom, was kindly invited by the Gingerline team to enjoy the experience as a guest — a rare treat, and a testament to the spirit of partnership behind the project.
Seeing guests transported across fantastical animated worlds while enjoying world-class food was a joy to be part of. The atmosphere — playful, magical, and a little surreal — reminded us exactly why we love working on experiences like this.
The Grand Expedition received glowing reviews and ran successfully for over eight months. The combination of immersive storytelling, technical precision, and live interactivity made it one of London’s most unique experiences at the time. For LUX, it was a showcase of how powerful well-integrated technology can be in enhancing narrative, performance, and guest experience.
